Product Description

Queen Elizabeth I.

Great Seal – Reverse – Red.

This is the 2nd great seal of Queen Elizabeth I of England.

Elizabeth was the daughter of Henry VIII and his second wife Anne Boleyn. She came to the throne in 1558 after the death of Queen Mary. Elizabeth brought back stability to England and reinstated the country as a Protestant nation. She was very popular and loved by everyone in England. One great value she had was to choose the very best advisors and ruled with great political skill. During her reign she defeated the Spanish with their Armada. Sir Walter Raleigh set up the first Virginian Colony in America and William Shakespeare was at his height of popularity. Elizabeth never married and was also known as the Virgin Queen.

This reproduction is the reverse side and has been taken from a copy that would have been produced directly from an original impression in wax. Preserved for hundreds of years this copy shows the fine detail of the original and makes the perfect addition for any collection.
Each monarch of England would have had their own unique great royal seal. These seals were affixed to documentation to show and prove their authentication and validate that they are genuine in the absence of the monarch themselves. Originally these would have been made from wax and held together a document or scroll by a cord passing through the wax seal.

Our reproductions capture all the fine detail of the original wax casting and are moulded and then hand cast in a resin composite to produce a very accurate and high quality reproduction.
