We are a small but highly specialised company based in Sheffield England.
Oakapple Designs Ltd is an established company now with over 20 years of experience in the manufacture and production of mould making and resin casting. Our speciality and niche is for producing our unique and well known range of reproduction medieval carvings that are produced from moulds taken directly from original carvings found within the Cathedrals and Abbeys of the United Kingdom. These carvings are mainly found upon the ornate and lavishly carved Misericords within the Cathedral choir stalls. These mainly date from the medieval period and represent the finest surviving examples of high quality ecclesiastical carvings from this period in the UK.
The company is headed by Philip Youle B.A. (Hons) Industrial Design (Product) who with our small and dedicated team manufactures these unique reproductions in our own factory/workshop.
All the pieces we reproduce are hand crafted to the highest standard and produced here in the United Kingdom that capture all the fine detail exact from the original with a very authentic copy virtually indistinguishable from the originals.
Oakapple Designs Ltd are the only company in the United Kingdom with unique permission from the Deans and Chapters of the cathedrals to take copies directly from these magnificent carvings and to then reproduce them for resale, to the Cathedral Gift shops and to our own customers both retail and wholesale.
Over the past 20 plus years we have visited many of the major Cathedrals and Abbeys in the United Kingdom and taken moulds directly from these wonderful and magnificent carvings. These carvings have survived England’s long and rich cultural history and are now part of our unique collection of outstanding pieces that we have put together. The pieces we produce are some of the finest surviving examples from the master craftsmen of this period and ecclesiastic design and now available for the private collector. Over this period of time we have gained an excellent reputation from the Cathedrals and Abbeys with our professional service and reliability, we have been trusted to take these moulds from these very valuable and historically important carvings and then reproduced these for their own retail shops.
We have taken copies of carvings from many Cathedrals including Lincoln Cathedral, Ripon Cathedral, Beverley Minster, Ely Cathedral, Cartmel Priory, Worcester Cathedral, St. Giles of Edinburgh and Carlisle Cathedral.
Our customers include York Minster, Lincoln Cathedral, Westminster Abbey, St. Georges of Windsor Castle, English Heritage, Skipton Castle, Chester Cathedral, St. Martin in the fields – London, Leeds Council, National Galleries, Holy Trinity Church of Stratford upon Avon and the National assembly for Wales along with many other Cathedrals, Castles and Gift shops.
